Another day, another tablet but this one comes with a difference; the Advent Vega internet tablet has appeared on the various DSGi websites nationwide for a mere £249, a price that includes delivery.
At the moment, it is not available (opens in new tab) for home delivery and reservation is not possible, but given that it is significantly cheaper than the Apple iPad (less than half the price of the 3G version) and the Samsung Galaxy Tab, one would expect it to sell exceedingly well.
Just a note to highlight the fact that the device looks a lot like the Toshiba Folio 100 which was pulled by Dixons yesterday following surprisingly high return rates. Surely a coincidence.
The Vega sports some exciting features; there's a 1GHz Nvidia Tegra 2 processor clocked at 1GHz, 512MB RAM, a 10.1-inch capacitive touchscreen display with a 1024x600 pixel resolutions, 4.5GB onboard storage (512MB ROM, 4GB microSD card supplied), Android OS 2.2, one USB port, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, an HDMI port, a 1.3-megapixel camera and a 2-cell battery with an estimated battery life of 6.5 hours.
Currys doesn't mention it but it seems that it does come (opens in new tab) with an inbuilt 3G broadband device complete with SIM Card reader. You could potentially bring down the price of the device to £239 by using the code 10POUND when checking out.
