Technically, the Jolicloud Jolibook netbook is nothing more than a customised Intel-based netbook with a nice user interface that's beautiful or "Joli" in French; furthermore, since it is based on Ubuntu Netbook Edition, you can download it for free for any compatible platforms.
The closest notebook we could find in terms of functionality was the Acer Aspire One D255 which costs £249.95 at Pixmania. Like the Jolibook, it has a dual core Intel Atom N550 processor clocked at 1.5GHz, 1GB RAM, a 10.1-inch screen and a 250GB hard disk drive.
You also get a card reader, three USB port, Wi-Fi amd a six-cell Li-ion battery and a slightly different chassis. The Vye-based Jolibook comes with Bluetooth (not the Acer) while the Acer Aspire One D255 is 100g lighter, has a webcam with 4x the resolution and a theoretically higher battery life (8hrs vs 7hrs).
More importantly, the D255 comes with Windows 7 Starter and Android OS 2.1 and costs £30 less than the Jolibook, a gap that is set to increase as more N550-based laptops come to the market.
This means that you can experience a working environment very similar to Jolicloud without the need to install anything. Otherwise, download Jolicloud OS http://www.jolicloud.com/download here, install it on the D255 to turn it into a Jolicloud Netbook and upgrade when you feel like it.
