Jolibook puts cloud in the home

French outfit Jolicloud has launched its prettily-named, Linux-based, cloud-powered Jolibook in the UK.

The netbook costs around £280, for which sum you get a dual-core Intel Atom N550 CPU-powered machine clocked at 1.5GHz, with 1GB RAM, a 250GB hard disk drive and a 10.1-inch LCD screen.

It runs Jolicloud OS, a cloud-based operating system based on Ubuntu.

Jolicloud - the firm - says it is partnering with computer manufacturers "around the world" to create many different flavours of Jolibook optimised for specific purposes.

Vye a maker of computers for the education market is the first manufacturer to produce a Jolibook for the UK.
