Games developer Rovio has announced that Angry Birds will be coming to consoles sometime in the future.
Speaking to BBC Radio 1’s Newsbeat, Rovio chief executive Peter Vesterbacka said that his company is currently working on a version of the game for the PS3, Xbox 360 and Wii, something he believes will become more common for popular mobile games.
"The smartphone gaming platform is actually turning out to be the biggest and most played out there,” he said. "So it's starting to beat the traditional games on consoles and PCs."
IHS Screen Digest analyst Piers Harding-Rolls said that, although some app store games have made the switch from smartphones to consoles, Angry Birds will be the biggest yet.
Since its launch last December, Angry Birds has consistently topped charts with cross platform downloads for both the free and paid-for version expected to have topped 30 million.
Vesterbacka did not give a specific release date, but did say that he hopes that it will be out sometime in 2011.
