After TJHughes, Viking Direct, another US-based company has started cutting down on the price of the Apple iPad across all the six stock keeping units available and according to our records, the Office depot-owned company now has the cheapest iPad devices in the UK.
The six SKUs are located here and the prices are ex VAT. Viking Direct is offering a five per cent discount on all the iPad using the voucher code AVA-PRDOL as a note at checkout; note that you will be charged the full amount inc VAT and that five per cent (ex VAT) of the price will be refunded subsequently.
Once VAT and discounts are applied, the prices of the six iPad tablets will be as follow; 16GB for £399.41 (£429), 16GB 3G for £492.50 (£529), 32GB for £464.57 (£499), 32GB 3G & 64GB for £557.67 (£599) and 64GB 3G for £650.76 (£699).
Prices in brackets are Apple's SRP and Viking Direct doesn't include free personal engraving. Viking Direct offers free delivery and free returns plus until the beginning of next year, you will be entered in a draw to get a brand new mini and all customers get a free Advent calendar courtesy of Thorton's.
Could it be that Apple has started to clear out excess iPad stock ahead of the launch of the iPad 2 in the first half of 2011 or is it because of the increasing threat of Android-based tablets. Apple will have a Black Friday sales event on Friday 26th of November with iPads being one of the items expected to be discounted.
