Twitter co-founder Biz Stone has said that the next big step for the micro-blogging platform will be to come up with a global Twitter news service.
Stone told Reuters, during the Silicon Valley Comes to Oxford technology event, that a Twitter news service is the most logical way of harnessing the massive amount of information and data that is shared by its 175 million users.
“From the very beginning this has seemed almost as if it's a news wire coming from everywhere around the world. I think a Twitter News Service would be something that would be very open and shared with many different news organisations around the world,” he said.
He added that Twitter could also be used to help news organisations get in touch with people experiencing the events they are reporting on.
The idea is in the initial stages of formation, with no concrete plan yet developed to support it, but it is something that Twitter could work on, considering the fact that it already shares its data with search engines like Google, Bing and Yahoo.
