Microsoft has announced that its Windows Phone 7 mobile OS now boasts 3,000 apps and a community of 15,000 developers.
In a blog post, the company said that the platform had posted solid growth figures, nearing 3,000 apps by the end of this week and seeing an 80 per cent growth in its developer community since September.
Microsoft said that the upcoming holiday shopping season will be the biggest yet and that it is already rolling out new marketing drives to push its new Windows Phone 7 platform. The company also encouraged its developers to start making efforts to promote their own individual apps on the web.
Microsoft's Todd Brix said: “The developer community is placing some big bets with Windows Phone this holiday, so I want to take a minute to highlight a few things we’re doing to further promote their apps and games.”
Brix said that users will be able to search for Windows Phone 7 apps and games using the Bing Visual Search feature. He added that Microsoft's Xbox 360 games console will also act as a platform for promotion, as will windowsphone.com.
