The iPhone Dev Team has released a revamped version of the PwnageTool 4.1.3 that allows users to unlock their iPhone 3G and 3GS with baseband higher than version 05.13.04.
Nicknamed Ultra-recycle, the tool enables users unlock their iPhone 3G and 3GS devices to run iOS 4.2.1.
The Dev Team has found a way to exploit the previously patched AT+XAPP hole by using the iPad firmware 3.2.2, which has a baseband version 06.15.00 and is affected by the same vulnerability.
The PwnageTool 4.1.3 Unlock Edition comes with its share of warnings from the developers, who say that users will not be able to downgrade from 06.15. The upgrade will also void the warranty of the device.
“If some future baseband comes out with a critical fix, you won’t be able to update to it if it remains down in the 05.xx sequence (then again, you wouldn’t update to it if you wanted to keep your unlock anyway),” the Dev Team warned.
