Linux software maker Red Hat has acquired Makara Inc, a company which allows businesses to run applications on the cloud, in a bid to boost its platform-as-a-service (PaaS) portfolio.
In a press release, the company said that the acquisition will allow it to enhance products offered under its Cloud Foundations portfolio, previously announced in June.
According to Red Hat, Makara allows businesses to manage, deploy and scale their applications on both private and public clouds.
The company plans to integrate its JBoss Enterprise Middleware infrastructure with Makara's Cloud Application Platform to offer a PaaS tool to businesses that would allow them to move their applications to the cloud without much modifications.
Paul Cormier, president of Products and Technologies at Red Hat, said in a statement: “Cloud Foundations is about enabling customers and developers to have an easy on-ramp to the cloud. With the addition of Makara, we aim to further simplify application deployment and management.”
