A leaked slide that purported to reveal the specifications of AMD's upcoming Radeon HD 6990 dual-GPU graphics card has been unmasked as a cunning fake.
The slide, which we reported on late last month, claimed to be a blurrycam shot of a confidential slide leaked out from deep within AMD's headquarters by a member of the XtremeSystems Forums - and brought with it some reasonably convincing specifications for the rumoured dual-GPU graphics card.
Sadly, it turns out to have been a hoax, with reader Prandr pointing us in the direction of a post on the German-language site 3DCenter.org that unmasks the fraudulent slide - and even includes a demonstration of how it was created.
It turns out that it's not the first time the fake AMD slide template has been used to create a phony leak - the site also includes a remarkably similar looking 'leak' from April regarding a Radeon HD 7980 GPU, designed using the same template and turned into a fake blurrycam shot with the same techniques.
It's not known who is responsible for creating the slide template, nor who create the specific Radeon HD 6990 variant - but with 3DCenter.org blowing the lid off the scam it's not a trick that's likely to work again.
