Social games developer Zynga has acquired 'Words with Friends' and 'Chess with Friends' app maker Newtoy.
In a blog post welcoming the Newtoy team, CEO Mark Pincus said that the new addition to Zynga's global team will allow them to create more compelling social and mobile games for their customers.
The Texas-based Newtoy team will be joining the new Zynga with Friends studio while Newtoy CEO and co-founder Paul Bettner will be joining the studio as the vice president and general manager of the studio.
“We're reinventing the way people are social on their mobile devices. The Zynga With Friends Studio will build on the Newtoy legacy of creating approachable, highly social games that are accessible to anyone from anywhere,” Bettner said in a statement.
Zynga is one of the hottest web properties around and has seen huge growth on the back of the popularity of games like FarmVille, Mafia Wars and FrontierVille on Facebook.
