Social games developer Zynga has announced that the launch of CityVille on Facebook last week was the biggest social game launch so far, even trumping that of FrontierVille.
FrontierVille had a hugely successful opening day with 116,000 players signing up in the first 24 hours.
According to TechCrunch, CityVille managed to attract a whopping 290,000 people in its first 24 hours.
Whilst CityVille has had a very successful launch, it still has a long way to go in matching FarmVille's 53 million monthly users. FrontierVille currently has 6.5 million daily players.
According to Zynga, within a week, there have been 2.7 million homes built in CityVille along with 500,000 bakeries and 5 million sections of road. Meanwhile, around 25 percent of players have opened franchises in their friends' game.
Data released by application tracking firm AppData reveals that CityVille has 916,799 monthly active players as of now.
