Apple has updated its iOS mobile operating system by upgrading the security of push notifications and allowing the overseas distribution of iTunes promotional codes.
According to Apple Insider, the new push notifications on iOS devices will have a more secure 2048-bit TSL/SSL certificates.
Apple has informed its developers that the update will require an upgraded server certificate and has advised them to test the more secure communications channel in order to avoid future crashes.
The company has also announced that iTunes promotional codes will be available worldwide, when it had previously been stated that the codes would be confined to the US only.
Erica Sadun of TUAW notes: “This [change] particularly affects applications where English is not the primary language for use or U.S. customers are not the central audience.”
Developers will be able to send promotional codes to blogs, local newspapers and magazine without creating a US iTunes account.
