Facebook founder and CEO Mark Zuckerberg, the youngest billionaire in the world, has decided to donate a major chunk of his fortune to charity.
According to The Wall Street Journal, Zuckerberg promised to donate a significant proportion of his wealth after he signed up for the Giving Pledge.
Giving Pledge is an initiative championed by Microsoft founder Bill Gates and investment tycoon Warren Buffet, who have urged the world's wealthiest people to donate some of their fortunes to charitable and philanthropic efforts.
Zuckerberg is among 16 billionaires who have recently joined the Giving Pledge initiative. The initiative already has over 50 members, including New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg, film maker George Lucas and Oracle founder and CEO Larry Ellison.
In a video prepared for the pledge, Zuckerberg said: “With a generation of younger folks who have thrived on the success of their companies, there is a big opportunity for many of us to give back earlier in our lifetime and see the impact of our philanthropic efforts.”
