Sony Computer Entertainment have revealed that Gran Turismo 5 has sold over 5 million copies worldwide since its 24 November release.
According to Reuters, the company announced that the game, which had previously been plagued by delays, managed to sell a whopping 5.5 million units worldwide. Sony said that the new Gran Turismo iteration sold 3.56 million units in Europe, 1.25 million in the US, 160,000 in Asia, and 550,000 in Japan, as of 6 December.
The popular car racing franchise has now sold approximately 60 million units worldwide since the first edition was launched back in 1997.
The game features over 1000 different go-karts and cars from a range of manufacturers. The game also allows players to play with up to 16 other players over the Playstation Network (PSN).
Sony is aiming to sell 15 million PS3 units and 195 million gaming titles by March 2011.
