iPads And Gulf Oil Spill Top Twitter Trends Of The Year

Micro-blogging giant Twitter has released the list of the top trending topics on the platform for the year with Apple's iPad being amongst the most popular subjects.

According to The Guardian, the Gulf oil spill, FIFA World Cup and Inception were the top three overall trends for 2010, followed by Haiti Earthquake and Vuvuzela in the fourth and fifth positions.

The most popular people on Twitter were Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga and WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange, who is currently under arrest in London.

According to Twitter, the Apple iPad proved to be the most talked about topic on Twitter followed by Google Android and Apple's iOS platform. Call of Duty was the only game that managed to grab a slot in the top ten technology trends list.

The company, which is currently experimenting with its own ad platform, said that users sent a massive total of 25 billion Tweets this year.
