Microsoft is expected to unveil a range of tablet devices during the 2011 Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas next year.
Citing sources familiar with Microsoft's plans, The New York Times claims that the software giant is gearing up to launch several iPad rivals at the upcoming expo.
The NYT reports that Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer will announce several tablet devices made by the likes of Dell and Samsung during his CES presentation. The Windows devices made by Samsung will allegedly echo Apple's iPad in size and shape but will not be as thin.
One source said to the NYT: “The company believes there is a huge market for business people who want to enjoy a slate for reading newspapers and magazines and then work on Microsoft Word, Excel or PowerPoint while doing work”.
A further rumour also hints that Microsoft might preview tablets based on the still unconfirmed Windows 8 operating system.
