Self-styled “Internet gathering” Anonymous has warned those behind the arrest of three youths suspected of involvement in Operation Payback that they have taken on a fight they cannot win.
In a suitably misspelled and grammatically dubious statement on the Anonymous-WeAreLegion blog, the Online Living Consciousness called for its members to defend themselves against people trying to “force you to keep a tape in the mouth and ear plugs”, and to fight against laws preventing freedom of expression and information.
According to the post, the “lawless persecution” of Julian Assange and WikiLeaks, and the arrest of the three youths are merely symptoms of the division they currently perceive between 'laws' and 'rights': 'rights', the blog helpfully explains, that members can - and will - stand up for.
“We are at the dawn of a global civil war,” it says. “A silent civil war based on ones and zeros that governments, Corporations and financial groups, that those who carry tapes and earplugs in their pocket, can not win.”
The recent arrests, the post explains, will not prevent Anonymous from fighting for their beliefs. Thirty more, it says, will replace the three arrested - and should they be stopped, “thirty hundred will replace them”.
“It will not matter because the fight will not stop,” the gathering warns in its call to arms.
“... and the fight cannot be fair... because we do not forgive, we do not forget, we are legion...”
Petrifying, we're sure.
