Transport for London has enhanced its developers area to include more information, attempting to encourage developers to create apps that are useful to the public.
As part of the newly available data, TfL has decided to provide a live feed of travel-related information for the London Underground using the newly developed system Trackernet, which has been built of Microsoft's Azure platform.
TfL has also released a set of guidelines for developers on how to use the data provided by the department to create new apps and tools.
A spokesperson for the TfL said in a statement: “The big deal for us in terms of efficiencies is that we are making the information freely available to all passengers on our website and at stations. We are also putting it out there and letting the market innovate. This means that passengers are getting the most choice, getting the information in a host of ways.”
TfL said that further data releases are planned for 2011.
