Ailing internet giant Yahoo is planning close some of its big name web properties, according to a company screen that has been circulating on the Internet.
Amongst the brands that are to go are the well known websites: Delicious, Yahoo Buzz, and AltaVista.
According to ZD Net, the screen, which was posted by MyBlogLog founder Eric Marcoullier, contained three rows that were labelled "sunset", "merge", and "make feature".
Companies listed under "sunset" also include Yahoo Picks, AlltheWeb.com, Yahoo Bookmarks, and MyBlogLog, apart from the ones mentioned above.
Services that are being merged by Yahoo include Fire Eagle, Upcoming, Sideline, FoxyTunes, Yahoo Events, and Yahoo People Search.
A Yahoo spokesperson said in an e-mail: “We continuously evaluate and prioritise our portfolio of products and services, and do plan to shut down some products in the coming months such as Yahoo Buzz, our Traffic APIs, and others. We will communicate specific plans when appropriate.”
The news comes one day after Yahoo announced that it would be cutting 4 per cent of its workforce.
