The president of Sony's computer entertainment division has suggested that the next PSP device could utilise a touch pad for playing games.
In an interview with The New York Times, Kazuo Hirai, the president and CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment, dropped a number of hints about the upcoming PSP2 hand-held console and the rumoured PSP phone.
When asked during the interview about the kind of controller interface people might expect from the next PSP, he said that: “Depending on the game, there are ones where you can play perfectly well with a touch panel, but you can definitely play immersive games better with physical buttons and pads. I think there could be games where you're able to use both in combination.”
Additionally, when queried about the rumored PSP Go style smartphone, he said that the company would have to come up with something that “keeps the PlayStation's strengths intact.”
