Dell Streak running Android ‘Froyo’ 2.2

Mobile phone network O2 has recently updated the Dell Streak tablet they exclusively sell, to Android ‘Froyo’ 2.2. The roll out from Android ‘Éclair’ 2.1 happened last week, which was initially upgraded back in September from the shipping Android ‘Donut’ 1.6.

One Mobile Ring has updated its Dell 5-inch touch screen device to the latest version of Google mobile OS, in order to highlight for this feature the improvements made in the newly rolled-out upgrade to the Streak.

The Dell Streak running Android ‘Froyo’ 2.2 - home screen. The home screen has been reworked in the new version of the platform, to allow for seven customisable screens - with Android 'Éclair' 2.1 only offering five, on the Dell Streak. The increase can be clearly seen in the amount of dots at the bottom of the display, with three screens to the right and another three to the left - with one in the centre.

The Dell Streak running Android ‘Froyo’ 2.2 - mobile hot spot feature. Android 2.2 allows for the phone to be turned into a mobile hotspot, whilst offering up WIFI access to mobile devices in much the same way as the Three MIFI devices operate.

The Dell Streak running Android ‘Froyo’ 2.2 - HD video recording. The update recently rolled out provides 720p high definition video recording capabilities for the first time, from the Streak's rear-facing 5 megapixel camera.

The Dell Streak running Android ‘Froyo’ 2.2 - better multi-touch support. The shipping version of the Dell Streak with Android 1.6 did have multi-touch support provided by Dell, but only for inside of the browser - where now the use of multi-touch is available on a grater range of applications, such as Google Maps.

The Dell Streak running Android ‘Froyo’ 2.2 - live wallpapers. Android 2.2 brings in support for Live Wallpapers, where it's now possible to use live moving action images as back-drops for the home screens on the handset with a number of the examples being offered as a part of the roll-out.

The Dell Streak running Android 'Froyo' 2.2 - Swype. There is now the preloaded Swype keyboard application with the Streak, where instead of removing a finger from the keyboard when entering text - the finger is just swiped from key to key, with spaces and words being automatically added and recognised. This is said to be a much faster way of entering text, where One Mobile Ring reported a world record was broken in August - with the words “the razor-toothed piranhas of the genera Serrasalmus and Pygocentrus are the most ferocious freshwater fish in the world. In reality they seldom attack a human”, being entered in just 25.94 seconds, by using Swype.

Android 'Froyo' 2..2 also brings Adobe Flash 10.1 abilities to the Dell Streak, with richer flash video being viewable from inside of a web browser where it will be now possible to run Flash-based animation, video, and games natively.
