An online campaign on Twitter and Facebook has helped to find a missing teenager who disappeared three weeks ago.
Serena Beakhurst, 14, was found by the Metropolitan Police early on Wednesday morning after thousands of people joined the online appeal to find her. According to the Met she is unharmed and well.
Serena’s family set up a Facebook group to help find their daughter, managing to attract over 2,000 members, as well as spreading the campaign over Twitter with the help of celebrities like Stephen Fry, Rio Ferdinand, Simon Pegg, Matt Lucas and Sarah Brown.
Serena’s cousin James Andrew told The Voice: “This campaign has highlighted the strength of the community and how powerful we can be when we unite our efforts. Without the dedicated members of the Facebook group, Please help us find Serena Beakhurst, this would have just been another unreported case of a missing child.”
