Sony Computer Entertainment Europe (SCEE) has released a PlayStation app for users of iOS and Android devices.
The new free-to-download app allows users to read all the latest updates from the official PlayStation blog, access all the latest news on PlayStation products, share news and favourite games over Twitter and Facebook, as well as check their PlayStation trophies and keep up to date with their friends’ online status and games.
There has been criticism from some users that the app doesn’t feature a messaging tool. SCEE has yet to confirm that it is working on such an improvement, although has promised that it will add blog commenting and extra language support in the near future.
The app will run on Apple devices running iOS 4 and Android handsets running version 1.6 and above. It is initially available in the UK, Germany, France, Italy, Spain and The Netherlands on both iTunes (opens in new tab) and Android Market.
The PlayStation app has arrived prior to the rumoured release of the PlayStation phone, which has been further fuelled by recently leaked photos. The Independent (opens in new tab)speculates that the gaming smartphone could be launched at the Mobile World Congress held between 14 - 17 February.
