First Direct has launched an app for Apple's iPhone and iPod Touch devices which allows users to transfer money between accounts.
The First Direct app will let users check their balance, view their last 20 account transactions, authorise payments and transfer money between bank accounts from their device.
The bank announced that similar apps for other smartphone platforms like Android and Blackberry will be released in the near future.
Apps released by other banks, such as RBS and Natwest, have only allowed account holders to check their bank balance and get mini statements on their mobile device thus far.
Matt Colebrook, chief executive officer of First Direct, said in a statement to The Financial Times: “Over the last 12 months, the iPhone has grown to become the 6th largest source of visitors to our website and whilst android is growing rapidly, it’s nowhere near the iPhone just yet.”
The app can be downloaded here.
