Windows Phone 7 handsets are “as good or better” than market rivals, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has claimed.
Speaking to USA Today, Ballmer was adamant that his company’s smartphone OS has what it takes to compete with the likes of RIM’s BlackBerry, Google’s Android and Apple’s iPhone.
“There's a lot of competition,” he said. “But we've got the best-looking phones on the market.”
“We've got the greatest range of alternatives, the phones, the software, the craftsmanship. It is as good or better than anything out there.”
Windows Phone 7 has hardly set the world alight since its launch to much fanfare late last year, and an executive from handset partner LG has gone so far as to say it hasn’t lived up to initial manufacturer expectations, but the ever-bullish Ballmer isn’t throwing in the towel just yet.
“We have a lot of work to do,” he admitted. “But, we're in the game. We sold 1.5 million into the carriers.”
