The first 'super smartphone' on the market will be the Optimus 2X, says LG's marketing strategy and planning team director James Choi.
Mr Choi told Pocket-lint (opens in new tab) that the phone will be available for sale in the UK towards the end of February 2011. The LG Optimus 2X was launched, alongside the LG Optimus Black at CES 2011 earlier this month.
Carphone Warehouse says that the smartphone is to be released sometime in March 2011, and online retailer Expansys has pegged the launch date to 21 of that month.
The phone is the first to come with a dual core SoC, an Nvidia Tegra 2 clocked at 1Ghz and based on the powerful Cortex A9.
It will be able to run and record 1080p video, has a large 4-inch WVGA capacitive touchscreen, an 8-megapixel camera, a front facing camera, an HDMI output and will debut with Android 2.2 before eventually upgrading to Gingerbread.
The LG Optimus 2X will also be the first one to come with its own customised Ennio Morricone theme tune. Expect the phone to go on sale for around £500 unlocked (£40 per month on a two year contract).
