Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play handset - better known as the PlayStation Phone - has appeared for sale in China, according to reports.
Taiwanese website ePrice has posted pictures and videos of the Xperia Play, which is currently being sold in Shenzhen on the Chinese mainland. The device featured on the site runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread, and features a 1GHz CPU and a 4-inch multi-touchscreen.
The Xperia Play handset trialled by ePrice show that the device has a similar layout to the PSP Go, but features touch pads instead of conventional joy pads. This addition was recently mentioned by Sony President Kazuo Hirai in an interview with the New York Times in December, although he had hinted that this would feature on the PSP2.
Sony has yet to confirm any link between the pictures published and the final product.
The rumour follows recent reports that the upcoming smartphone will be offered by Orange UK when released.
Sony also looks likely to announce the long awaited PSP2 soon, with current reports hinting at an official launch on 27 January. There is still no confirmation of the launch date for the Xperia Play or whatever form it will finally take.
