News@10: Samsung App Store Hits 2 Million Downloads, Ballmer Talks Up Windows Phone 7 & PlayStation Phone

Samsung’s app store for Smart TVs has now topped over 2 million downloads, it has been revealed today. The Samsung TV App store, which allows users to download apps to their Smart TV and access them on screen, has reached this latest milestone only 53 days since the portal reached one million downloads.

Windows Phone 7 handsets are “as good or better” than market rivals, Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer has claimed. Speaking to USA Today, Ballmer was adamant that his company’s smartphone OS has what it takes to compete with the likes of RIM’s BlackBerry, Google’s Android and Apple’s iPhone.

Sony Ericsson’s Xperia Play handset - better known as the PlayStation Phone - has appeared for sale in China, according to reports. Taiwanese website ePrice has posted pictures and videos of the Xperia Play, which is currently being sold in Shenzhen on the Chinese mainland.

Facebook has changed its user settings, allowing its developers to request access to a user’s contact address and phone number. In a post on its developers blog, the company said that developers will be able to access and utilize contact information if their application gets proper permission from a user.
