BT's plans to bring a super-fast broadband connection to Stourport will help to attract businesses to the Worcestershire town, a local MP has said.
Stourport is one of the 41 towns and villages selected by BT to receive a super-fast broadband infrastructure upgrade by spring 2012.
Wyre Forest MP Mark Garnier believes that the super-fast broadband connection will help bring Stourport into the "communications of the 21st century". It would not only attract businesses to set up offices and increase employment but will also help local businesses to flourish.
The service, which will give users a maximum download speed of 40 Mbps, will be hooked up to 9,000 homes and businesses when it is completed. BT has indicated that the downloading speeds could be scaled up to 60 Mbps in the future.
Garnier said in a statement to the Kidderminster Shuttle: “This is an important development for Stourport. Increasingly, when considering where to relocate, businesses and individuals frequently look at broadband access.”
