Microsoft has blamed an unknown third party service for an anomaly which caused the "phantom data" problem on its Windows Phone 7 platform.
Many Windows Phone 7 OS users complained that they had received abnormally high monthly bills after huge amounts of data was mysteriously uploaded even when the phone was on Wi-FI.
At that time Microsoft, had said that it was aware of the problem and was looking into the matter. However, Seattle Post Intelligencer reports that Microsoft has discovered that the problem originates from an unknown third party software.
Talking to Seattle PI, a Microsoft representative said that the company is now working to provide a fix for the problem.
“We have determined that a third-party solution commonly accessed from Windows Phones is configured in a manner that potentially causes larger than expected data downloads. We are in contact with the third party to assist them in making the necessary fixes,” the company said in a statement.
