White iPhone 4 Handset To Launch On Best Buy

One tipster has sent the picture of the back-end of a Best Buy inventory system to Macrumors (opens in new tab), showing that the white version of the iPhone 4 is set to go on sale from the 27th of February - at least in the US.

Earlier, Engadget had reported that the inventory system of Vodafone Germany also showed up the elusive white iPhone 4 with a launch date expected to be quite soon (ed : One can expect Apple to release a white version of the iPhone 5 at launch).

The 16GB and 32 GB white iPhone 4 SKUs carry the number 1049236 (model BBM42LD) and 1049245 (model BBM43LD) respectively. Apple said in October last year that the white version of the iPhone would be released in the first few months of 2011.

Apple said back in June that building white iPhone 4 handsets "have proven more challenging to manufacture than expected" without giving more details about the challenges encountered; some have posited that the root of the problem lies with the camera.

There were also a number of sightings of the white iPhone 4 in the US, all of which proved to be inconclusive. However, an enterprising 17-year old high school senior managed to sell a conversion kit for the black iPhone 4 at the behest of Apple, raking in $130,000 in the process.
