Social networking platform Facebook has disabled the account of a woman from Kent claiming she was impersonating Prince William's fiancée Kate Middleton.
Kate Middleton, a 29-year old healthcare assistant, was shocked when she received a Facebook notification claiming that she was an impostor and that her account was being shut down.
“I logged in and it came up to say I was a fake and my account had been disabled. They said I couldn't use my name because I was impersonating someone famous, which I'm not, as I am Kate Middleton,” she told BBC News (opens in new tab).
Her boyfriend shares his name with famous TV personality Jonathan Ross, but his Facebook account has remained unaffected.
Facebook has now reinstated her account after The Sun (opens in new tab) intervened and proved that she really is called Kate Middleton, and is not an impostor.
“We review thousands of pieces of content every day and takes action to ensure Facebook remains a safe and trusted environment for everyone. Of course, we make an occasional mistake,” Facebook said in a statement.
