Argos has introduced PayPal's payment system to its online retail site.
PayPal payments are the most popular mode of online payment for individuals and businesses in the UK and Argos is hoping to capitalise on that popularity and increase online sales.
The company also hopes that users afraid of disclosing their financial information to a third party will be attracted by the data security offered by PayPal.
A spokesperson for Argos told New Media Age: “There’s still a large number of people who don’t like using cards online. PayPal gives them the ability to transact without the need to enter card details.”
Martyn Saville of Which? also hailed the new arrangement between PayPal and Argos saying that the agreement: "offers a convenient way to pay for online goods without revealing your card details to the retailer. This tie-up between PayPal and Argos gives consumers an extra payment option."
The latest move follows the success of Argos's sales channel on eBay, Argos Clearance Bargains, which has processed 750,000 sales over PayPal since its launch, a company spokesperson said that the new website payment option was the next logical step.
