Social network Facebook has rolled out a new service on its platform, set to allow advertisers to make use of user generated content to market their products.
Facebook’s ‘Sponsored Stories’ platform will allow advertisers to turn user activity, like check-ins, 'likes', actions within games and apps and page posts, into advertisements for their products by choosing to feature them in the column on the right side of the news feed.
Users will only be able to view Sponsored Stories from people in their friends list and have appeared in their own News Feed, the Financial Post reports.
Facebook Product Marketing Lead Jim Squires said: “It’s a way for marketers to increase the visibility of certain stories that show up in News Feed.”
“Word of mouth, recommendations and endorsements are a huge value to marketers and are happening every day across the News Feed. However, they are coming and going and as a user you may or may not see some of the stories that happen in your News Feed.”
