News Corp. is set to launch its iPad-only subscription-based newspaper, The Daily, at a press event on 2 February.
According to CNN, the press invites say that News Corp chairman Rupert Murdoch and Apple vice president for Internet services Eddy Cue will be launching the newspaper at the Solomon Guggenheim Museum in New York.
The Daily, which will be available to readers for 99 cent per week, was originally expected to be launched by Murdoch and Apple CEO Steve Jobs on 19 January, but was hit by delays owing to some technical glitches, Reuters reports.
The app will come with exclusive news content, photos and video, and will also have its own dedicated team of journalists and editors.
Initially only to be available in the US, the Daily is Rupert Murdoch's latest attempt to monetise his company's online news content. The availability free online news has cannibalised the sales of newspapers and magazines, and publishers are now hoping the new wave of tablet devices will reignite interest in paid news content.
