Rovio has partnered with 20th Century Fox to release a new version of its Angry Birds game based on the movie studio’s upcoming animated film ‘Rio’.
In a post on Twitter, Rovio announced that Angry Birds Rio will be released in app stores worldwide in March, to coincide with the release of the movie.
Rovio also released a game trailer in which the famous birds are caught and taken to Rio de Jeneiro via helicopter. Caged and angry, the birds are shown a poster by a white macaw, which says that someone is offering a $100,000 reward for finding the birds. Upon learning this, the birds escape their cage only to find hundreds of other caged birds.
Peter Levinsohn, president of new media and digital distribution for 20th Century Fox, said in a statement: “It's about taking that traditional entertainment experience -- whether in theaters or on the TV screen -- and creating a new level of engagement.”
Rio will be released in cinemas in April.
