Apple iPod crashes car...

Toyota might have another recall on its hands as its in-car entertainment systems are being borked by Apple gadgets.

According to Aussie motoring web site Drive, some of the country's most popular cars are having their sound systems hobbled by a recent iOS4 update to iPods and iPhones.

Toyota has issued a bulletin to its 200 dealers Down Under warning that iPods and iPhones running version 4.1 of the iOS operating system can cause the sound systems of thousands of its cars - including the Yaris, Corolla, Kluger, Prado, LandCruiser, HiLux and hybrid Prius - to fail.

The glitch effects tens of thousands of cars sold in 2009 and 2010 and will need to be repaired using a 'field fix' procedure or as part of a recall.

Although no reports have yet been issued by Toyota UK or any other territory outside of Australia, cars bought or built in other countries use common components and software, so an international recall could be on the cards.

Dealers have been told only to respond to punters who complain about the problem.

Toyota has been plagued by massive recalls in the last year or so denting the brand and causing sales to dip by a fifth in some countries.

Not being able to play the latest Kylie album in your car shouldn't do quite so much damage.
