Windows gets untethered iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak

Chronic Dev team has released a Windows version of its untethered Jailbreak for Apple devices running the latest release of iOS.

Hot on the heels of the Mac OSX version which tipped up late last week, the Windows version allows devices running iOS 4.2.1 to break out of Apple's walled garden and install Apps which haven't run the gauntlet of Apple's strict iTunes approval process.

Untethered jailbreaks offer a persistent hack for iPhones, iPads and iPod Touches which don't need to be re-installed each time the device is power cycled.

There's still no Linux version but, if the current release cycle is anything to go by, we're talking days rather than weeks before all of our open source chums can get in on the action.

Beta releases of iOS4.3 seeded to developers have already circumvented the exploit currently being used but it will only be a matter of time before a new back door is unearthed, if it hasn't been already.

You can download the Mac and Windows versions of Greenpois0n here and we'll keep you posted if and when the Linux flavour shows its face.
