The number of smartphone users in the US has shot up over the course of the last year, a new report has revealed.
According to market research firm comScore, in the last three months of 2010, the number of smartphone subscribers in the US aged 13 or higher increased by 60 per cent when compared to the figures for the same period in 2009.
comScore reckons that there were 63.2 million smartphone users in the US during the last three months of 2010, up from the 38.7 million users recorded for the same period in 2009.
The comScore study also revealed that Apple's iOS and Google Android were the only two smartphone platforms that registered quarter-on-quarter increases during the 4th quarter of 2010.
Android grew by 7.3 per cent in the last three months to acquire a 28.7 per cent share of the US smartphone market, just ahead of Apple's iOS, which held a market share of 25 per cent.
