The launch of the BBC led YouView web TV service has been delayed to 'early' 2012 owing to technical glitches that have plagued the platform from the beginning.
The project, which is backed by BT, TalkTalk, ITV, Channel 4, Channel 5 and Arqiva, has been delayed by more than 6 months to early 2012. YouView was expected to launch in June this year, but rumours that emerged late last month had suggested the launch might be delayed.
YouView looks to bring web TV services powered by a broadband Internet connection to enabled televisions across the UK.
Company chief executive Richard Halton said that it is important that the product is not
"rushed" into the market. He also rubbished rumours that there are rifts emerging between the YouView partners.
“Creating a truly open TV platform that will bring consumers increased choice has required significant technological innovation. Our timings for the launch reflect the scale and complexity of this project,” he added.
