Windows 7 gets first service pack

Microsoft has announced that it will release Windows 7 Service Pack 1 on February 22nd.

The 1.2GB download is basically all of the minor point releases since the operating system's launch in July 2009 bundled into one place and will save new users installing Windows 7 for the first time a significant headache keeping up with all of the tiny tweaks.

Microsoft says that SP1 also includes improvements to security, networking and mobility particularly for advanced and business users.

If you've been keeping up with Microsoft's regular patch programme there's not much in the release to make Win 7 SP1 essential until software installers start demanding it, but Microsoft Volume Licensing clients will get an early bite of the cherry on February 16th.
