Content purchased through the PlayStation Network will not be transferable to the upcoming Android based Xperia Play device with consumers having to re-purchase all the content for the smartphone.
Sony finally unveiled the smartphone, dubbed Xperia Play, at the Mobile World Congress. The device is powered with the latest Android software and comes with a slide out game pad.
The slide-bottom Android Phone plays PlayStation Suite-compatible games as well as the old PlayStation 1 titles, but they will only be available as new purchases from a separate Sony Ericsson online store.
Nathan Vautier, managing director of Sony Ericsson UK and Ireland, said in an interview with GameSpot UK that all the content previously purchased on the PlayStation Network will not be transfered to Xperia Play.
“[Xperia Play owners] will have to re-purchase the games, so it's not totally integrated. I think the exciting thing is that there are games which people are very, very aware of,” he said in a statement.
