The unlocked version of the HTC Desire S has been listed on the website of Amazon for £420 with the handset expected to be launched by the 18th of April according to the site.
The price however is set to drop significantly within weeks as the HTC Desire HD (opens in new tab) can be purchased from Amazon for a mere £400 while the HTC Desire (opens in new tab) costs only £317.53; both offers include a free Bluetooth handset.
The HTC Desire S has the same 3.7-inch WVGA touchscreen display as the HTC Desire, it has a tougher but slimmer unibody design and weighs a tad less than its predecessor.
It packs a newer version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC clocked at 1GHz with an upgrade graphics GPU, 768MB RAM and 1.1GB onboard storage, a five megapxiel camera with AF, flash and HD recording capabilities as well as HTC Sense.
The battery is a 1450mAh model which will give up to 435 minutes of talktime on WCDMA and up to 590 minutes on GSM.
Now whether that warrants a £20 premium over the HTC Desire HD which has a bigger screen, SRS surround and Dolby Mobile plus 400MB additional internal memory and an eight megapixel camera remains to be seen. Ditto for the £100 or so extra that you have to pay compared to the HTC Desire.
