Online retailer Amazon UK has announced the release date and pricing for HTC's upcoming Desire S smartphone which was previewed at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona.
The online retailer said that the Android 2.3 smartphone will be available from April 18th in the UK and will be priced at £420 for the SIM-free model.
The device will ship with the Android 2.3 Gingerbread operating system and a 1 Ghz Snapdragon processor that can also be found on the HTC Desire HD. The Desire S will be powered by 768MB RAM, 1 GB on-board memory and sport a 5 MP high definition camera that can record HD video. The new HTC model will come with a 3.7-inch 480x800-pixel screen.
HTC has in the past unveiled show-stopping flashy new phones at the Mobile World Congress, with the Desire S, this seems not to be the case. It is certainly not a step up from the HTC Desire HD.
The Amazon pricing suggests that the device will be affordable when wireless carriers start offering it. Vodafone, Orange and T-Mobile are planning on offering the device in the second quarter of 2011.
