Official : Apple iPad 2 To Launch On March 2

Apple has issued invitations to selected members of the press for an event next Wednesday, March 2, in San Francisco where the iPad 2 is going to be launched.

Amongst those gifted with the opportunity to see the iPad 2, there's Christer Holloman from Sky News (opens in new tab) (UK) who clearly doesn't even have a clue that the iPad 2, not the iPhone 5, will be on stage.

The event invite shows an iPad with a slightly larger bezel with the wordings "Come see what 2011 will be the year of" and will take place from 10AM (PST) at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts according to the Loop (opens in new tab).

There were earlier rumours - the latest coming yesterday - that Apple would have delayed the iPad 2 until June but with so many retailers in the UK and elsewhere displaying out of stock signs for so many iPad stock keeping units, a looming launch was never out of the picture.

While we won't be there next week, we will cover the event - hopefully live - next week from CeBIT in Germany, Hanover.
