Carphone Warehouse has put a price tag on the HTC Incredible S which might cause some to choke; £499.95 for a SIM-Free handset that boosts some great specifications but nothing to shout about especially when the competition is cheaper and more powerful.
The handset is exclusive to Carphone Warehouse and Best Buy and is described as having a "sleek, matte black" finish which is designed to "make it stand out from the crowd"; but for us, it stands out for the wrong reasons.
At £500, the Incredible S is the most expensive HTC phone on the market, £105 more expensive than the excellent HTC Desire HD and carries a 60 per cent premium compared to the HTC Desire.
Both the HTC Desire HD and the Incredible S have almost the same characteristics; the Desire HD is 29g heavier, boosts a 4.3-inch screen, the same processor, the same amount of onboard memory (RAM) and storage (ROM), the same rear camera.
The only notable differences are the smaller battery, no front facing camera and Android 2.2 on the HTC Desire HD. Whether these three features are worth more than £105, we're not sure.
With a selling price that's reportedly higher all the forthcoming superphones (Motorola ATRIX, LG Optimus 2X, Sony Ericsson Xperia arc, LG Optimus Black), it is very likely that the price of Incredible S will fall heavily soon.
