In an interview on The Alyona Show, (in)famous hacker George Hotz AKA GeoHot confirmed that he will try his hands at the Sony Ericsson Xperia Play and confirmed that he was excited about the iPhone 5 which should be launched in June 2011.
Because the Xperia Play is considered to be a phone rather than a gaming console, it is perfectly legal to jailbreak the device in the US as it is exempted from the DCMA.
He wrote on his blog that "In fact, I want the opposite reputation set, that the more a company tries to abuse the legal system, the harder we rally back. I will be the first person in line on the launch date of the Xperia Play, and itching to get my hands on the Next GEOHOT Project."
Sony is currently suing GeoHot for jailbreaking the Playstation 3 console (v2.55) and Hotz managed to raise sufficient funds through donations in just a weekend.
While the iPhone 5 is still a few months away (6th of June is our educated guess), the Xperia Play should be available in March itself. You can view the complete interview of Hotz below.
