Samsung Launching 8.9-inch Tablet On March 22nd

Samsung is set to launch a third Android-based tablet on the 22nd of March during a Samsung Mobile Unpacked event, called Special Episode, to be held in Orlando, Florida, US.

The invite (opens in new tab), which was posted on a Samsung Facebook page, reads "What's your tab life? 78910" with what looks to be the back of a tablet with the headphone socket clearly visible.

The number 78910 appears to refer to the 7-inch, 8.9-inch and 10-inch tablet. The launch of the inbetweener tablet would come almost six weeks after Samsung launched the 10-inch version at MWC in Barcelona.

There are a number of unknowns though; will the 7-inch model be pulled from the market? Will the 8.9-inch one come with voice capabilities, will it feature the same hardware as the Samsung Galaxy S II?

The headphone socket gives you an idea of how thin the actual product might be, around 10mm by our estimates.

There are only a couple of 8.9-incher on the market from major manufacturers; the LG Optimus Tab and the HTC Flyer; most others like Motorola, Asus, Acer or Samsung have been looking at 10-inch models until now.

The fact that it will almost certainly launch in the US first could also mean that the tablet will be primarily aimed at an US audience first before coming to our shores.
