A Swedish anti-piracy group says it was involved in the arrest of 'an elite pirate' thought to be responsible for one of the world's biggest stockpiles of illegally copied movies and software.
The un-named man, thought to be in his thirties, was collared on Friday and is thought to be the Mister Big behind a private Warez server which is the source of a great deal of the pirated material floating around the Internet.
The man is thought to be the administrator of the ATHF server, which hosts thousands of movies, games and other pirated materials. Although the server is only accessible by as few as 100 people, it is thought to be a major distribution point for much wider file-sharing.
Prosecutors said the operation was a 'major crackdown', and that examination of the arrested man's computers had unearthed more than 7,000 stored movies.
“In this case the offence involves so many movies that conviction could result in a prison sentence,” said the cops, according to Torrent Freak.
